Distracted driving is no longer a side issue, it is one of the leading causes of crashes, injuries, and deaths in the United States. National safety experts estimate nearly one-third of all crashes involve distraction, costing families, businesses, and taxpayers billions every year.

States that adopted hands-free laws are seeing real, measurable results. Ohio reduced crashes by more than 15,000 in one year. Iowa is seeing declining phone use and falling fatalities to the lowest level in 100 years. Rural and conservative states benefit the most, because distraction is higher and crashes are more severe.

Hands-free laws work because they are clear, enforceable, and fair. Drivers know what is expected. Law enforcement doesn’t guess intent. Behavior changes and lives are saved.

Even though hands-free is not risk-free we do see the reductionin crashes and fatalities after enacting policy.
